Editorial Policy

The Readout exists to serve readers with accurate, fair and useful business journalism. This is the standard we hold ourselves to.

Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of commercial interests. Sponsored content, where it appears, is clearly labelled and never produced by the newsroom.

Accuracy

We verify before we publish. Facts are checked, sources are named where possible, and figures are sourced. Where we cannot independently verify a claim, we say so.

Fairness

Subjects of critical reporting are given a reasonable opportunity to respond. Their position is reflected in the story.

Sources

We protect confidential sources. Anonymous quotes are used sparingly and only when there is a clear public interest.

Conflicts of interest

Writers disclose any material interest in subjects they cover. Where a conflict cannot be managed, the story is handled by another reporter.
